I stayed in most of the day today. I wanted to pick-up my things around the apartment and do laundry. Yessss I finally did it! It only took me a week to go down to the 3rd floor!
I had plans to go to the Yael Naim concert tonight in Central Park with my friend Kealan. Unfortunately it rained, so we did not go. I was really excited about it too. Kealan works for Regis and Kelly. Last week Yael was on the show and personally invited Kealan and her friends to this concert and then drinks afterwards. It would have been a lot of fun to go. I'm tired of this rain!
Once I found out we were going, I started to brainstorm what I could do tonight since I did nothing all afternoon. I have a hard time sitting in my apartment. There is so much to do here! Keeping with the relaxed theme of the day, I decided I wanted to find a coffee shop and read my touristy books. Since I live in Herald Square, one of the many tourist trap sectors of the city, there aren't many quiet places to go. To compensate, I turned to my 10001 NYC Ideas book and found a fun coffee shop in Greenwich Village. I went to Caffe Reggio. They have the oldest cappuccino machine in NYC. This place was great. I felt as if I was transported into Italy. Since they had outdoor seating and I'm a sucker for outdoor seating, I decided to sit on the patio. I think everyone there resided in the Village, except for me. They all spoke Italian and seemed to know each other. It was nice to just sit back and find fun things to do throughout the city without crazy English-speaking people distracting me. Oh, the drink was fabulous!
While I was browsing through my books trying to find things to do with my summer visitors, I read about this place called Hummus Place and it happened to be one block away. I am a bit obsessed with hummus, along with honey and frozen fruit, so of course I had to go. I was way too full from the panni, so I decided to get lunch for tomorrow. It's going to be a-maz-ing!
It seems kind of ridiculous, but eating your way around New York is really the best way to do it. You can really get a great sense of the different neighborhoods. The books even you how to do via the subway. I was looking at the to-see list when James comes and half of it was revolved around food. I'm sure I'll find other things to see along the way to our culinary destinations! =)
This whole subway thing is getting a lot easier. I actually got on the right train, exited on the correct corner, and found the caffe on the first try. When I went to return, I "timed" the train I needed perfectly. It was pulling up when I walked down the platform. It was even an express that went directly too my apartment. I'm finally getting it! I can finally read the maps correctly!
Well, here's to having another fabulous week! I'm not sure how to top last weeks, but I will definately try! I hope you have a great one as well!
