This morning I was determined to get up early and go to the Greenmarket in Union Square. It was so nice to go by myself and just roam around. Even though there were thousands of people surrounding me, I felt as if I did get some time alone. While at the market I bought some fruit and vegetables. It is so much cheaper than buying them from Trader Joes. The market also had a great art section. There is a painting I really liked..maybe I'll go back later in the summer before I leave.
Everyday this past week I told myself I was going to go back to the apartment and do laundry. Although I did actually put a load into the machine, I went to Duane Reade and bought detergent. I am one step closer. It is my goal to actually go down today and do it. I am having a hard time spending $2.50 to wash and then $2.50 for drying.
Once I finally got back to the apartment I cleaned up my desk and did some odd things around the apartment. The girls eventually came back from Coney Island. Liz is really into making videos with her camera. Her mom wanted a video of our "lived in" apartment, so I filmed it while she narrated. I'll try to post it later. It was quite humorous.
Tonight we went to Local to meet up with Joanna's friend. It was across the street from Madison Square Garden, so we only had to walk like 6 minutes. It was great! I've seen this place walking to and from work every day, it was nice to actually experience it.
After Local we were supposed to go downtown for a rooftop party in the financial district. I was excited to see someones apartment. I think it is so interesting to see what people consider a nice apartment in the city. Nice apartments in St. Louis are 4 times the size here.
Unfortunately once we got there the people already left. They were trying to get a hold of us, but we were in the subway with no phone reception. Therefore we had to get back onto the subway and go to the Union Square area. It was not fun spending an hour on the subway going back and forth. It takes forever for trains to arrive late night.
Once we arrived in Union Square we went to Bar 13 for Alexis's friend's party. It was a nice rooftop bar where a lot of her college friends were. It was fun, but I was so tired from waiting at the subway. The best part of the night was meeting Emily, Alexis's friend, who is a special events planner for Calvin Klein. We exchanged information, she said she would let me know if anything opened up. And if there wasn't much, she has a lot of friends throughout the industry that would help me. Exciting! It is funny how this week changed me in the networking sense. When I was in St. Louis I always awkward when it came to networking. Now, I have no problem doing it.
This was a big week for me.....how to use chopsticks and networking finally clicked! Woooho!
