Today was a usual day at MSLO. I conducted a competitive analysis between Martha Stewart Furniture and other companies like Crate and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, etc. I had a great time looking at all of the different pieces of furniture. I can't wait to live somewhere longer than 9 months. I'm tired of moving back and forth.
Mindi informed me today that I will be presenting all of my intern work to Kevin, Gael, and Robin in late-July. In addition to a handful of other people, they are three of the most influential and top people at MSLO. While I am very nervous to do this, I think it will be a great experience!
There was a tag sale today at work. It may sound silly, but I have been soooooo excited about this sale for over a week now. I love cookware! All of the items the company purchased for marketing initiatives were on sale for 70% of the original price. They set up all last week, so I had been eying up with goods. I had my heart set on a 12 piece cooking set and dishes. Luckily, I lined up early enough and partnered with a girl in my row. We both ran in and snagged two cooking sets! yay for teamwork! I bought the 200 dollar cooking set for 70 dollars. What a deal! I also bought awesome plates, bowls, serving dishes, etc. for about 1-3 dollars each. I can't wait to have a permanent apartment. My goal was to get something that I could look back on and think of my internship. I think I went over and beyond that goal. I had to leave a lot of it at work. I'm going to have to make daily trips.
A downside of this sale is that I have to bring everything home. Good thing 14 of the Timmermann girls are coming up in August! Each one is going to have to pack a few items for me....or at least one pot! Unfortunately, but fortunately a lot of the fun stuff was gone from the morning session. Interns and freelancers were not allowed to attend the morning session. Otherwise I would be having some major space issues. I'm just so excited about my cooking set!
After work, I went to the gym with Liz. The sale overlapped all of the fun classes. I think we are going roller blading in Central Park tomorrow. I'm super excited. Hopefully the weather will be nice. It was disgustingly humid today..I thought I left that in STL!
While walking to the gym tonight, it really hit me how many streets there are here! I peered down a random street and thought, what is down there? There has to be so many hidden treasures in NYC that very few people know about. I know it is a silly thought, but if you think how many streets, people, buildings, whatever is here, it is overwhelming. I wonder if anyone traveled each street in NYC....that would be a lifelong task!
The girl I teamed up with tonight was telling me how her friend's dad is determined to drink at every bar in Manhattan. He drinks at three different places a day. He started after he retired and must have a pretty big following now. I couldn't imagine drinking three times a day or even everyday. I learn about or witness something crazy everyday here. It is quite entertaining! Yesterday was a full-grown man with a mohawk walking down the street in a full-body purple leotard with an extravagant amount of white feathers.
Joanna wanted to dye her hair tonight. For some reason I felt the need to play hairdresser. I'm not sure what I was thinking since she wanted to go lighter, but I continued. Her hair is really dark, so any mess ups would be visible. Even though it didn't turn as light as she wanted, it still looks cute. Phew!
It was fun hanging out with the roommates tonight. It isn't often we are all here at the same time. I think there has only been one or two instances when we've gone out together on the weekends. Hopefully that will change...they are a lot of fun!
Well, off to my death-trap of a bed! =)
