Girls Day

Decided to explore Macy's today with Robin. I thought it would be a good idea to let her go where she wanted in the store since I can go any time I want. This concept completely backfired. I found so much cute stuff! I found some super cute work outfits! I can't wait to wear them. Shopping is definately becoming a problem. We are in retail heaven. My roommate didn't have anything to wear tonight so she walked down to H&M and bought something. This cannot become a habit!

Macy's was so big! There are like 12 different floors and each is equivalent to one Macy's in the St. Louis area.

After shopping Robin and I grabbed dinner at the Heartland Brewery. It was decent. Definitely a tourist place, but the food was good. The new seasonal beer is a Berry Champagne Ale, i would like to go back and try it some time.

Tonight the roommates and I went to Garden of Ono. I really liked the scene. It was a side of NY I really enjoyed. It was an outdoor bar with big couches, cabanas, and heaters. City lights hovered the open roof. It was awesome! However, I did not enjoy the prices. It was 13 dollars for a vodka and cranberry. These places can get away with murder!

We went to Ono tonight because of the bar promoters one of my roommates know. Usually the places they suggest give free drinks all night if you give their name. Unfortunately tonight he was just "working the door" and not promoting. Oh well, we have somewhere lined up for tomorrow night with free drinks. I'm tired of paying these ridiculous prices. It isn't fun! The concept of the promoters is kind of random. I'm not sure how Alexis knows them, but if you get on their contact list they will text you every night of the week and tell you where the hot spot is. Usually this includes free drinks since the promoters receive money for each person they bring in. I'm not sure how anyone makes money if the bar is paying the promoter and the promoter is buying really expensive drinks for the guest. Alexis said last time they went to Garden of Ono they received a free cocktail (at least $15) and bottle service all night with a table. Getting a table at a club is a huge thing. Most of the time you have to pay a premium just to sit. So besides the table, the girls also received a bottle of Grey Goose and all the mixers they wanted. I do not get this promoting concept, but it seems to work. I hope to experience more of this in the near future. I cannot afford going out anymore!!!

Ono is located in the Meatpacking District. The street it was located on was in the closing scene of the Sex and the City movie last night. It is fun to recognize places throughout NYC that are featured in TV shows or movies.

I was talking to a group of people tonight at Ono and a random girl next to me dropped her coat, so I picked it up. She looked at me like I was crazy and said "thank you so much" in the weirdest way. I asked the group what just happened and they said you could tell I'm not from NY...supposedly i'm too nice! What the heck, too nice because i picked up someones jacket??? This place is nuts. They kindly explained to me that NY people only look out for themselves and do not care about anyone else. I guess my "niceness" will just be one more way i stick out like a weird mid-westerner..

It is supposed to rain here tomorrow. The weather has been amazing, it will be sad to see it go. Other than seeing Wicked in the afternoon, I hope the rain will cause me to just chill out in the apartment for awhile. I need rest...this city is truly the city that never sleeps.

Happy Saturday! =)

  1. Sam, Please don't lose your "midwestern niceness" in the 2 1/2 months that you are here. I had a great time shopping even if you did get more outfits than me! They were so cute.
Good thing you are scoping out all the hot spots to take James to when he comes to visit.
    Love ya, Robin

  2. Sam, I have a feeling Alexis is a cute girl much like youself. These promoters want cute girls at these places to sell the ambiance. You would be "window dressing" as it were. Frankly, I am surprised you have to buy any drinks. Look guys in the eyes and smile. This should save you a lot of money. Just don't give out any info.
    Take care,
    Sarah B.
