First day!

WoW! What a day! Today I had my first day at MSLO in the Starrett Leigh building. This building was amazing!! MSLO owns the entire 9th floor. The trainer said the 9th floor has an equivalent of nine miles of windows wrapped around it...that is nuts! The building is very industrial, so everything was painted white and had a lot of metal finishes. You may think white would be a bit much, but there were so many samples laying around, it look colorful and amazing. Just by the looks of the employees, building, everything, i know this is the place I am supposed to work.

We had to be at work by 9am. Joanna and I started walking around 8:20. We were there in plenty of time. Along the way we saw Coach's headquarters. Arriving at the building, we had to go through some security and then up the elevator. Getting off on the 9th floor, we were greeted by an awesome lobby. The lobby has actually been featured in the magazine numerous times.

All 25 interns were then led to a conference room where we were greeted with a goody bag filled with every MSLO magazine you can think of. I definitely have a lot of reading to do! We did a lot of paperwork and sat through numerous presentations.

All the interns were treated to a catered lunch from Mangi's. It was soo good! I had a basil and sun dried tomato chicken sandwhich and salad with the best salad dressing!

After lunch we were given time to mingle with the other interns. There are a lot of cool people working for MSLO, i'm excited to hang out with them outside of work.

Eventually our managers came and got us and we were off to work. I was definitely thrown right in! I sorted upholsteries, designed product boards, and sat in two conference calls. The calls/meetings were hard for me I didn't know what they were talking about. Before I left one of the girls on my team explained everything to me. Now I am definitely ready to dive in tomorrow. There are only 4 people, including me, in my "department". I think this will be a great way for me to become involved.

The test kitchen, product library, and Macy's showroom are all located in my building. I was able to witness the amazingness of the kitchen today after my second meeting. My manager, Mindi, brought our team cupcakes. OMG these were amazing. This was the best frosting I've ever had! I knew I would love this job! There are also a lot of pantry's in the building that are fully stocked with beverages. They used to have soda, coffee and tea, but now they only carry tea, coffee, 100% juices, milk and sparkling water. Martha realized how bad soda was and took it away. The intern coordinator says she only wants us to consume the best. =) Therefore I had the option of enjoying Vitamin D, Skim, Fat Free, or Soy Milk with my cupcake...it was heaven!

Unfortunately I did not meet Martha today, but the other group of interns on 42nd street did. The intern coordinator has a lot of events planned for us, so hopefully I'll get to then. I will definitely keep you posted! By the way...I saw her office...it was so simple, but gorgeous!

Within the first few minutes of being in the building I knew this is where I am supposed to be. It was everything I could ever hope for. There is some much detail in everything. Supposedly Martha is having everyone at her house sometime this summer. The coordinator said there is a good chance we could go. How exciting!!! Another thing i found interesting was the intranet system at MSLO. There is so much on there! I can buy MSLO product samples, rent an apartment, receive tickets to events, receive a discount on anything I want, check e-mail...it's great! As I was checking my 64 e-mails...I realized all of the fun things offered to MSLO employees. The most interesting of them all was in an e-mail from Martha herself. She brought eggs from her farm and was offering them to all employees at a maximum of 4 per person. I thought this was great. Hopefully I will be able to try Martha's very own organic eggs from her farm!

Ahh I cannot wait to learn more and experience everything!! I can't wait for tomorrow! =) =)

  2. Sam,

What a first day! I can't believe how much of the city you have experienced already. My question is - when do you have time to sleep? Take care.
