January 23 - Night Bazzar, Teepee Bar, and Sketchy Neighborhoods!

As soon as we arrived back to Mirror we had two short hours to repack for our weekend trip to Chiang Saen. On Friday’s, Mirror takes us into town to a restaurant, Big C’s, and then to the Night Bazaar. I find Friday evenings a lot of fun because we are in a different setting as a group. Unlike last week, most of us stayed in town at the Mirror Guesthouse. There was a birthday in the group so we went out to the Teepee Bar after the night bazaar. This was the craziest night I’ve had in awhile. The bar is owned by a crazy local Thai that pretty much caters to anyone who walks in. The décor was probably the most random aspect. There were posters, Barbie doll parts, black lights, anything you can think of hanging around. Wigs were passed out to new comers as the Macarena was playing. This place was great for big groups – we had so much fun dancing the night away. The teepee bar definitely makes a strong drink. James and I evaluated how much we spent and kind of freaked out because it was 1,000 baht. We than started to think how that was only 30 bucks or so. For the amount of drink we bought for ourselves and others, I think it was a pretty good deal. It would have been much more at home!

The funniest aspect of the evening was the ride/walk back to the guesthouse. The Thai interns couldn’t remember the address so they wrote down a different guesthouse that was supposedly near Mirror. Well, the tuk-tuk dropped us off at the Chang house and then told us to walk. The problem was that we walked the opposite direction which resulted in a very scenic tour of a sketchy Thai neighborhood. I’m not sure how we found our way, but we did. It only took us 45 minutes when the walk should have been about 15 minutes total…at least we were a big group!
